DL Panama has chosen AU2MATION to provide a solution to support automation of key aspects of stations on Line 2 of the Panama Metro (Metro de Panama), elevated subway line, between San Miguelito and Nuevo Tocumen. This follows from a previous similar project in 2013 to automate station elements on Line 1, which currently links Los Andes County to the city centre. An MMIM, from UK vendor Metasphere, together with the STRATON IEC61131-3 programming environment has been deployed at each station to interface the SCADA system to lighting control panels. In addition, an MMIM is deployed at each water pumping station and interfaces the SCADA to an ITT Flygt pump controller that controls between 2-4 pumps, depending on the station. These are used to pump out water from the train lines due to extreme rainfall and flooding.

“We needed a solution that would be easy to deploy and required minimal support and maintenance.” said Sebastian Profili, Project Manager at DL Panama. “The STRATON IEC61131-3 programming environment made it easy for us to develop the required interfaces to the many devices at each station. The high-reliability of the MMIM has reduced our time on site, allowing us to provide a better service to Metro de Panama.” DL Panama is a specialist building automation and electrical system contractor.
